ICU update - Day 19

It has been a quiet couple of days in the ICU. And that's a good thing.
A few updates:
  • Slowly but surely the ounces are rolling in. Today he weighed in at 1lb 14oz (850g). I'm hopeful that in the next week we'll get to celebrate 2lbs (912g) AND 1000g (2lb 3oz)! That's the beauty of using two measurement systems - twice as many milestones! Back up that cake delivery truck!
  • He is still a bit anemic. The race is on between his ability to produce blood cells and the never-ending need for blood samples. If he ends up needing a transfusion, daddy may be tapped for supply. A test will be done tomorrow to see if our blood types are compatible. Mommy is off the hook playing the "I gave birth to him" card... The idea of being able to do something tangible for his development is very appealing. Not that the incubator-side cheerleading isn't tangible...
  • Today he was quite alert, moving his arms and legs (pulling out the air tube which has now been re-applied with industrial strength tape) and looking around.
  • Ericka has been kangarooing for the past few days and it has gone well. I did it today for the first time since the March 23 fiasco. It went very well. He slept like a log (which is really the point).
  • Feeding is now up to 1.1 teaspoon per hour. That extra .1 teaspoon adds up over time...
  • He still has a few occasional breathing spells that need to be under control before any further drops in air supply.
  • The bilirubin light hasn't been seen for days!

All in all, things are good!

those are some great boots! I'm thinking about going shopping today to look for a pair for myself, hopefully they make my legs look just as good as Mathias'! we too are glad to share a few pounds for the cause to get Mathias over the hump! (glad to do our part!) :)

Do you think Mathias can take a few cousins with him to Harvard? I'm sure they'd make a good roommates!!

Sending thoughts and prayers,
Angie,Rob and the boys
