This morning we called the ICU and the nurse told us Mathias had gained a whopping 3oz (90 grams since yesterday). The one-kilo barrier came and went although not in the way we would have wanted. He had gained weight as a result of retaining water. As he was looking pale and 'puffy' and had a couple of significant breathing spells, the doc ordered up a blood transfusion which took place late morning.
With the addition of 15 ml of brand new blood he's looking much better.
Ericka is kangarooing as we speak.

Hi guys! Mathias is looking bigger all the time. I'm sure he did "perk" up after the blood transfusion. Elle had more transfusions than I can actually remember and I, too, remember her having spells where she would retain fluid and then have to have medicine to help get rid of the extra. I remember how great it sounded to hear that her weight was up a couple of ounces only to find that she'd end up losing it to diuresis.
These are just normal bumps in the road of the NICU. Mathias will continue to progress! He's a strong little guy and now a member of the 1000gram club. I remember making such a big deal when we hit that milestone. Yeah!
