Tuesday again

Today is my lovely wife's birthday! Happy, Happy!!

The overnight hearing test was postponed. Apparently, the person that was scheduled to do it was pulled away in a different direction. Not sure when it will happen. But time will tell.

The doctor told us today that when Mathias gets to go home they'll send along a heart & breathing monitor. The return trip is not yet imminent but they gave us advance notice to make sure we could schedule the class to make sure you know how to use the unit. While there they also give you a rundown of infant CPR.

In all, it leaves us with a feeling of relief, joy, and dread. As in "good thing he'll be hooked up to the monitor so we won't lie awake at night listening to make sure he is breathing" combined with "I can't believe he is coming home!" topped off with "I can't believe I'll be monitoring the machinery to make sure he is breathing"...

Happy Birthday Ericka!

Reading Patrik's description of your responses to the idea of coming home with a heart monitor reminded me exactly of what we felt nearly 11 years ago. Matt & Zac came home on monitors and there was a definite relief in that. They just became part of our baby equipment! You'll do great...you know more than you think you do already, just being in the ICU and ICC over the last two months.

Can't wait to log on one morning and find out you've been given a homecoming date!

Happy Birthday Ericka! Hope the three of you had a great day. Mathias has quite the clothes collection already - he must be the envy of all the other babies in the nursery. ;)

Happy Birthday Auntie E! Sending warm fuzzies your way. Mathias is doing so great - don't worry - even bringing home "full term" babies is scary!!! Just go with the flow, try not to worry (although all parents do). Just enjoy having him where he belongs! It's unfortunate that babies don't come with directions. :)

It will be a great relief to have a monitor when he comes home. If we didn't have one I dont think I would have slept a wink.

Happy Birthday, Ericka!
I read Patrick's journal today and it brought back so many memories of going home. I was so excited to bring Elle home but after 89 days of having her in the hospital I felt like I was taking her away from everything she had gotten to know. It was a wierd feeling leaving the hospital. I remember crying the day I was discharged shortly after she was born. Leaving your child in the hospital after he/she is born is one of the worst feelings. But, like I said after she had grown to know all the sounds/voices I felt like I was taking her away from what she had gotten to know. Kind of wierd but it's true!
The apnea monitor we went home on was left on for 6 months. We never had any episodes but I feared we would all the time. The monitor went off several times just because it became detached or something but it definitely gets your heart racing!
Mathias is going to do just fine. It will be scary taking him home but you two seem to be very intelligent and caring that you'll do just fine! Take care!
