On the eve of the 4-week birthday

I suppose tomorrow will be the last week we celebrate a birthday in "weeks". Friday he turns one month and I don't suppose we'll recognize the 5-week birthday nearly as much as week 1-4. They grow up so fast, don't they!

On that note, here's where we are:

  • Mathias is currently weighing in at 2lbs 7oz (1110 grams). If things progress as they have, he may have doubled his birth-weight by the time he turns one month on Friday.
  • The CPAP is staying on although they take it off every once in a while to see how things go (and give his nose a chance to straighten up).
  • His feeding rate is now up to 1.4 teaspoons per hour.
  • The treatment for his eye infection is done in a couple of days.
  • It's a bit counter intuitive but it is a welcome sign that he gets quite cranky when the nurses apply his eye meds, etc. As the thinking goes, if he has the energy to cry and protest then he must be doing ok!
Ps. I'm celebrating week 1826 on Thursday!

It's hard to believe that it's been 4 weeks since Mathias entered the world....where does the time go? I'm sure the last 4 weeks have been such a blur for all of you but as we look back at how far he's come in that time we realize more and more what a little miracle he is. we celebrate each and every milestone and each and every day with you all.

love

we are so confused!! to the best of our recollection, he was born on a tuesday, not on a friday? therefore, we are saying happy one month today, vs. in a few days. angie could not have said it better, and we put her right behind patrick for a second career in writing.
despite the few hiccups, mathias has done wonderfully, and we continue to send love and strength to all three of you. the fargo crew

Let me just tell you this.....Some day you will appreciate how much time this kid spends in bed....As for us, the Reagonator was wandering around in our bedroom last night for the majority of the night. He was on some sort of an in house field trip! Maybe he could spend some time with Mathias since he doesn't sleep that much at night anyway. I hope all is going well today. We are thinking about coming up at the end of the month to see the little bugger in person. Rob

Hej Mathias

Lord God
Calm my heart when I am afraid.
Give me faith to know You are there no matter how deep the waves become.
Quiet my heart so I can hear You in the voices of others
And in the silence of the night. Amen
I like to remember the "He holds you in the palm of His hand" thing....right Mathias!! PS There's a way to translate Swedish on the internet ... !!! LJM

Dear Mathias, little Braveheart,
I´m one of your two grandaunts in Sweden and I will tell you a true little story to describe what a very special person you are in your Swedish family tree ..
.. once upon a time, in 1856, 150 years ago, there was a small boy born in Stockholm and he was your father´s grandmother´s grandfather, by the namn Carl Johan Fredrik Tapper. Your ancestor became a very skilful blacksmith and his surname Tapper means ´brave`. You are his sondaugther´s son´s grandson and I think you deserve his name ´brave`!
All my love
Grandaunt Inger
Ps Congratulations on your 35th birthday, Patrik, from the Hagdahl family.
Many thanks for the lovely picture!
