A pair of setbacks

For a brief shining moment we were free from the pesky nose tube. But, with great freedom comes great responsibility - you have to eat on your own. Mathias fell short in the eating department, lost a couple of ounces, and was promptly re-tubed. As Jean Shepherd put it every family has a kid that won't eat...

We also had our first hearing test and failed it. Nobody seems particularly riled about it though. I think the nose tube doesn't help one bit! More tests to come.

Thx!

Four zillion steps forward, one step back. What a roller coaster this little sweetie has put you on!

I, on the other hand, have never missed a meal! He's just getting the hang of it and I wish I didn't have such a good handle on it!

Kiss him for me!

Love, Lydia

You have come so far in the past few months! Don't be discouraged by a tiny step backwards. Sometimes in life you have to take a step backwards in order to move forward. He is a strong, amazing boy and will be home in no time!

Won't be long until he's a member of the "big eater's club"! Maybe they should entice him with chocolate! Let him get the hang of it and he'll take off! He looks so cute!

Hi! Just a word of encouragement, we had the feeding tube in and out several times before Elle got the hang of "if I don't eat well I have to have that stupid tube stuck down my nose again"
That's such a minor issue even though it seems big to you. When he's ready he'll take right off. I remember the nurses getting Elle all undressed so she'd be a little on the "cool" side. Somehow this made her stay awake and drink the whole bottle. When they're all nestled up and warm they tend to just slack off and go back to sleep. The whole body temperature issue was a little wierd, but it truly did work.
As far as the hearing test, I knew of others that had to have it rechecked and they ended up just fine without any hearing problems.
Take care!
