Ice hockey

We brought the boys to see the local 8th graders play ice hockey.

It was a huge hit!  Mathias has rarely sat still for this long as he was intrigued with the activities on the ice and the frequent player collisions!  

Without any formal sports commentator training he tallied up the evening's performance by the hometown Tigers with the succinct but  summarizing statement: the orange guy fall down!

After the four-month birthday bash...

It is time to sweep up the confetti, wash the cake plate, put away the party hat, and head for the clinic.  The not-so-festive four month checkup is next!  It comes with no less than three vaccinations  - enough to spoil your day no matter how jovial your disposition.  

Johan keeps growing and we reckon it won't be long before he catches up with big brother!

Real food!

Well... real may be subject to individual interpretation...

In either case, Johan has deviated from his previously strictly liquid diet and we've moved into a just slightly less liquid one.

Big brother was there to 'assist' when we introduced J to rice based cereal.  Johan seemed intrigued even if he didn't quite know what to do with it.  Later we introduced mushed pears and then he got the hang of it.  Nothing like a little sweetness to make everything easier!

4 months today!

The birthday boy isn't quite ready for cake yet.  

But we're starting on rice cereal...  Confucius says even long trips begin with a single step!

Entering his second year

Johan is beginning 2009 in fine form.

A recent check-up indicated that he has doubled his weight in just over four months.  At just under 14 lbs (6 kg) he has doubled his weight since birth.  In case you enjoy numbers, he has been growing at a daily compounded rate of .7%.  If he keeps that up his weight will exceed that of Jupiter by the time he is 33 years.
