Reading like a 6-year old

With May just around the corner, Johan's year of Kindergarten is rapidly drawing to a close.  He went in knowing the letters of the alphabet. And it looks like he will come out with a pretty good ability to read. This week he had a reading assessment, at the Kindergarten level, at school and he scored a 46 out of 48. He is well on his way!
Of course, it is always nicer when someone else reads. Especially Aunt B!

A weekend of... hockey!

It seems life now revolves around hockey... Mathias had a clinic this weekend. This meant hockey Friday night, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning. No sleeping in around here! In this go-around it was all practice drills all the time. No games were played whatsoever. That was probably a good thing since the age of kids ranged from 8 to 16...

Invading the Xcel Energy Center

Last week we had the opportunity to skate on the home ice of the Minnesota Wild. They must have had the day off or a road game or something...
Mathias brought a friend and they got to skate in front of 19,000 (mostly empty) seats, including test-sitting the penalty box. Mathias was even lucky enough to win a raffled out hockey stick signed by Minnesota Wild team captain Mikko Koivu.
At the end of the open skate, the 8-14 year-olds to play a game (nobody used the penalty box during the game!).
