Nine days in Minnesota

Two of these five pictures were taken on April 18th.  The boys were out building a new crop of snowmen.  It was a warm day for having snowed so much and the snow was perfectly sticky!

The other three were taken this weekend as the boys were out driving the gator around helping rake up some leftover leaves from this fall.
In the month of April, we'd all rather rake leaves than shovel snow!

The Starry Night

Depicted here is Mathias inter-pretation of Vincent Van Gogh's The Starry Night.
I think he captured the essence of it even though the original uses oil and his uses paper and crayons.
Note - the original painting is the picture on the bottom.

The last hurrah of winter (this time we mean it)

Introducing: The new addition to the MN Wild defensive lineup. Hey, they can only improve from here, right?!  Alas, much like the NHL team, these two giants collapsed within an hour of the picture being taken.
Kidding aside, the boys and I had a sloppy afternoon putting these guys together in the rain...
We'll take some spring any day now!

Spring

Around here people say that Minnesota has two seasons: winter and road construction From the looks of our driveway winter just ended!   Although I think during road construction season in the rest of the state the workers fix pot holes, not create them!

The last hurrah of winter

For spring break you can embrace the sun and travel south in search of sand, beaches, relaxation and umbrella drinks.  Or you can pack up your car and drive north to where the tundra is still frozen...
We did the latter and ended up on the shores of Lake Superior.
The boys got to stay warm by a camp fire while roasting marshmallows in between trips to the shore for some marathon sessions of throwing rocks into the lake.  The splash is even more fun if there is ice to break!

On the way home we stopped at Spirit Mountain to close out the skiing season. It was 45 and sunny. The snow was soggy to say the least. But Mathias got to ski in short sleeves which is always a nice feeling (as long as you don't fall down).
I spent the day skiing with Johan. Or rather skiing down the mountain holding onto Johan to keep him from falling. He didn't practice turning, stopping or anything they teach in ski school. It was a straight line down the hill... And he smiled pretty much the whole time.  As for me - it was HARD work!
