Cake auction

The 2018 cub scout cake auction arrived!  Johan wanted to make a 'spring' cake. We arrived at a birds nest in a 'tree'.  Johan had a lot of fun making his vanilla custard cake with lemon frosting (the color of sunshine) and decorating with a birds nest with a few chocolate eggs (Easter leftovers!).  For the leaves we rolled out marzipan with green coloring and made cutouts.
I arrived at the auction with instructions to buy it back. It wasn't the priciest cake in the auction but it took in $90. I folded at $80.

Lacrosse

The conclusion of the hockey reason lined up very well with the start of the lacrosse one. I'll have to admit, I'm not quite up to speed on the rules of the game. It is like mix of hockey, handball, and soccer. For indoor lacrosse, simply remove the ice in a hockey arena and start playing. Once the snow melts it moves outdoors onto larger fields.  First tournament is already in two weeks!

Ear all fixed up

After the last round of tubes in his ears, Johan has had a hole in his ear drum. After waiting patiently for it to heal up for 18 months we finally gave up. A surgeon lifted some tissue from behind his ear and used it to 'plug' the hole. Supposedly a laser was involved too. But we're not quite sure what it did. Johan was a trooper through the surgery and we couldn't be prouder of him. He is now to take it easy (and preferably not sneeze) for about four weeks. Easier said than done!

Skiing Montana

Spring break 2018 was spent mostly in the car and on the ski slopes of Montana. With the snow disappearing at home Bridger Bowl offered long slopes, hardly any skiers, and lots of fresh snow.  The weather was a mixed bag - one day was sunny (but not warm enough to melt snow), one day was windy, and one offered 6 inches of fresh powder (which was quite a different experience). I think we'll be coming back next spring break!
