Fishing with Farfar

Mathias enjoyed fishing with Farfar during the visit.  After a trip to the store to get a new rod after the other one accidentally ended up at the bottom of Lake Rebecca they were set to go. A bucket of smaller fish were accumulated before the real entertainment rolled in in the form of a pretty big carp. Not having any idea what to do with a fish like that we let it swim away to get caught another day!

Baking with Farmor

Farmor and Farfar came to visit!  The boys had fun making goodies with Farmor. Among the most delicious creations were Dalahorse shaped cakes (with our without coconut decorations) and chocolate balls.
At the airport, after we dropped the grandparents off again, Johan was overheard saying "I'm going to miss Farmor's pancakes".  His spirits improved when I promised to do my best to bang out some Swedish pancakes this weekend.

And just like that...

...first grade was over!
Mathias was lucky to have fabulous teachers for Kindergarten AND first grade.  Thanks to Mrs. Kern for all she did for him this year. Mathias is off to a great start in life.

Track & Field Day

At the tail-end of the school year was the annual elementary school track and field day, Mathias competed in many of the events including the 400m race, the tug of war and the relay race.  It is a bit unclear what it was for but he came home with a 4th place ribbon so he must have done well at something.
We weren't there to watch the spectactle. But we were given access to a set of 330 pictures taken during the day. So amongst hundred of kids we had our own game of Where's Waldo? to find him. And we found four!

Take me out to the ballgame, too...

Johan, in most things, wants to be like big brother.  So Monday and Wednesday evening he is playing tee ball.  Johan is on the River Cats team.
Watching a bunch of five-year olds play ball is quite enterntaining. It seems the shirts, pants, bats, balls, hats, and helmets are all at least two sizes too large for them.  But they seem to have a good time. So we just sit back and take it all in.
