New specs

One week before his eye appointment, Johan's glasses finally bit the dust. It was a miracle that they lasted as long as they did, we have had them in to be re-formed into something resembling glasses about a half dozen times.  They held out as long as they could!
Johan's vision has improved since his last appointment. So his new specs are adjusted and as his eyes grow over time he might avoid wearing glasses altogether (hope springs eternal, right?!).
He picked out his new glasses himself and decided that yellow is going to be the color for 2014. Take notice!

With the world on a string

For a brief shining moment we took advantage of the fall wind gusts to get a couple of kites up in the air. Mathias had his Lightning McQueen kite and Johan had Batman on his.  Heaven forbid anyone would have a kite without a movie character on it.  It was blowing hard and steadily enough that it was hardly any effort to get them up in the air.  But it was coooold and the wind pretty quickly drove us indoors for some hot chocolate and cookies.

Reach out and scare someone!

The boys roamed the old neighborhood for Halloween this year disguised as Buzz Lightyear (I blame the Disney vacation) and a ninja.  It was a chilly night so we didn't stay out very long. But nonetheless the boys walked away with about a gallon of candy.  But we're doing what we can to help them get rid of it!

Pumpkins - field to freight in 3 easy steps. Step 3 - light

Add a few tea candles. And just like that, you're ready for Halloween.  Notice that the one in the middle has three eyes just like the aliens in Toy Story. That's what Johan wanted for his pumpkin.
Be afraid! Be very afraid! Boooo!

Pumpkins - field to freight in 3 easy steps. Step 2 - carve

Opening a pumpkin can get messy. Maybe that's part of the allure!  Mathias requested that we save and roast some of the pumpkin seeds. It remains to be seen whether he will eat them.

Pumpkins - field to freight in 3 easy steps. Step 1 - find

There are two way to get yourself a pumpkin. You can go to a retail establishment of sorts, such as a grocery store or a gas station, and buy one. Or you can go to the source and pick your pumpkin out in the field.  Well... you still have to pay for it!
Ericka and the boys are old-school pumpkin hunters. If you don't have mud on your shoes and burrs on your pant legs you didn't get the full experience.
