Finally summer: let's see some cows and car crashes!

In keeping with a tradition that is now about as entrenched as Christmas, we went to the Carver county fair. On a rainy day we ate some less than healthy fair food and checked out the sheep, llamas, goats, cows, horses, and whatnot. On the motor front we, as usual, inspected the latest in farm tractors for a few good photo ops. The main event, as it always is, was the demolition derby. With all the rain, the arena was wetter than usual and we were treated to many splatterings of mud, courtesy of spinning tires. We already have next year's visit pencilled in on the calendar!

Finally summer: let's go up north

We took an impromptu trip up north to Ely with some friends. We stayed at a rustic cabin on the edge of the Boundary Waters. The boys and their friend Sylvie had a lot of fun fishing and learning to paddle a canoe. On the way back we stopped in Eveleth, not only the home of the MN Hockey Hall of Fame but also the worlds largest hockey stick (and puck). Because no matter how sunny it is… apparently there is hockey somewhere.
