Out west - Rapid City

The first stop on our family road trip was in Rapid City, SD. We drove there at nigth, so we did not stop at Wall Drug or any other tourist stops along the way. We saved those for later!  The first stop was a revisit to Storybook Island. It was a bittersweet reunion with the park we really enjoyed two years ago. The boys, particularly Mathias, were border lining too old to get full enjoyment out of the 'storybooks' in the park. But he put on a happy face and made the most of it.

New for this year was a regularly occurring magic show. We were there for the first showing in the morning which was quite sparsely attended. Mathias, Johan and the one other kid in attendance all got to go on stage and be 'helpers' as the magician dazzled them with his tricks. He was quite good and nobody had any good theories how he pulled off his feats.  

We took in lunch at the fire station converted into restaurant. A burger always hits the spot!

 

 

About time!

After six months (!) with the classic seven year-old look, Johan is sporting the beginning of a couple of front teeth. 

Next stop: corn on the cob and apples! 

Desk MICKE and chair STEFAN

Funny thing about assembling IKEA furniture with dad... You get to learn to use tools. And you learn new words you haven't heard before! In the end we put together a new desk for Johan's room.
