Waste management

For the 4th of July our hometown every year puts on a bunch of events. With Independence day this year inconveniently falling on a Wednesday, some of the events are happening this weekend, still in June.
One of the events is the kiddie parade where the young ones dress up as various things and hold a short parade. The boys and their friend Clara decided long ago to go as Randy's Sanitation. As it happens we live next door to Randy himself so he set them up with hats and stickers. Add the Gator, a few cardboard boxes, spray paint, yellow work vests, a broom, and voila - we had a waste removal truck and a crew.

We hit a snag when Johan refused to walk and Ericka carried him around the parade route. But when it was all said and done they won second prize beaten by the von Trapp family from Sound of Music

Sittin on the dock of the bay...

Well... not quite.  But he is sitting by the fence of the cow field next door.
Johan is building up to become a card carrying member of Future Farmers of America.  Usually when he gets out of bed in the morning he will run to the window to check if the cows are out. Along with his brother he has several of them named and he gets happy when he can spot some of the old favorites. Perhaps it's the country version of train spotting.

Father's Day (slightly late)

Ericka, the boys, Farmor & Farfar and I spent Father's day at lake Rebecca.
Farfar took Mathias to try out his new fishing rod while Johan and Farmor took in the playground.  The fish were biting pretty well and Mathias had fun. Once he got tired of fishing Mathias and Johan took a swimming break.
To wrap it up we grilled burgers and hot dogs before it started to rain.
Ericka planned it all and it was a fabulous surprise!

Junior firefighter

Well... there are no fires involved.
But M seized the chance to operate a water sprayer during spring cleaning.
Sometimes it is actually more fun cleaning up the mess than creating it.

Celebrating the arrival of summer

It's really not summer until you play with water in the yard.
The boys found some creative ways to expand the fun in a plastic pool that is woefully too small (and water that is way too cold for anyone's tastes).
I'm guessing by 4th of July we will have broken down and gotten a bigger pool.
