Chickens

Much of Johan's summer was consumed by... chickens.
Shortly after we came home from Sweden the chickens arrived via mail.  Yes, by mail.
One day old we parked them in a box in our garage under a heat lamp where they lived for a couple of weeks. Then we migrated them to a larger box in the garage. Meanwhile, we were scrambling to get a chicken coop built in the back yard. Johan has turned into quite the chicken master and they come running to him when he comes near the coop. It might be because he's usually handing out dried meal worms, which apparently chickens go nuts over.

We got six Barred Rock chickens - all named after players on the Boston Bruins team. And we got one Swedish Flower Hen- Mackan - named after our friend Agneta's dog. She's turning into quite the bird. Eggs are expected by Thanksgiving!

Mathias Summer in Review

I'm woefully behind on photos... And it is now fall.  So here's Mathias' summer in review. He:
  • Played lacrosse
  • Spent a week in northern Minnesota at a camp
  • Got to spend time at the shooting range with his friend Tristan
  • Dabbled in golf
  • Learned to water ski
  • And got braces on his teeth
It was a great summer. But it's over now...

Johan 11!

Yesterday (ok, I'm behind) Johan celebrated his 11th birthday! He seems to have hit a bit of a growth spurt as he's up 5 inches from his 10th birthday. He is now closing in on his mom in height...  When asked what he wanted to do to celebrate, he wanted to take a few friends to the Corcoran Demolition Derby. And why not!? It was a blast!

2019 World Travel VI - The Blue Lagoon

On the way to the airport for the trip back home we did the final stop of the vacation and checked an item off Ericka's 'Bucket List" - the Blue Lagoon. It was quite lovely and set in this rather surreal moonlike landscape of nothing but volcanic rock. It was fun and well worth the stop if you're in the neighborhood.

2019 World Travel V - Iceland Road Trip

On the way home we did a two day stop over in Iceland. It was a lovely place to visit.  Compared to how it looks on the globe, it is quite large. And hardly anyone lives there. So you're driving around most of what you see are occasional sheep and other tourists. We did a daylong road trip visiting Gullfoss, Geysir and a few other places we can't pronounce nor spell. We're making a mental note to come back for a week long stay to drive the Ring Road some day.  In Reykjavik we even stumbled over an electrical contractor company called Johan Rönning (they lost the 's' somewhere).
